Energy has deep relationships with each of its three dimensions – the economy, the environment and social welfare. The search for cleaner, safer, more reliable, cheaper sources of energy and better ways to use it unites countries all around the world, large and small, rich and poor.
In order to make energy an integral part of sustainable development, new policies need to be developed. Such policies must strike a balance among the three dimensions of sustainable development, Environmental, Economic and Social Political. These relationships develop in a fast-moving and complex manner characterized by increasing globalization, growing market liberalization and new technologies, as well as by growing concerns about climate change and energy-supply security.
In this time of volatile energy pricing and availability, governments and industry are keenly aware of the need to develop and implement a long term strategy to provide a secure, competitive energy future. For governments, this strategy is of paramount importance to insuring the long term competitive environment of the country. For industry, the viability of the enterprise is at stake.
For many governments, change is slow and a long term (20-year) perspective is required to provide a secure energy future for the country. Sustainable energy diversity provides the flexibility to cope with vagaries of a changing global energy landscape.
Each country, region, enterprise has a different set of objectives and issues to deal with and consider. For some, tourism is the driver and “clean energy” is important. Others have drastically different seasonal conditions. Others have a public good to consider. The financial situation as to the ability to fund a new energy portfolio may be the overarching issue. Within this dynamic, changing and complex global energy landscape, and need for Sustainability clarity, Clean Skies LLC was formed.
In the Clean Skies approach, a sustainable energy policy examines the current energy landscape and offers a range of options and strategies. The options can range from energy conservation measures to modernizing the nation’s energy infrastructure or to confirming the direction adopted by the country or region
